From the very beginning Shipyard has tried to bring together researchers and people involved in various practical undertakings – especially civic activists and public officials. We strongly believe that NGOs and public institutions can and should make use of tools and knowledge generated in the area of social reseach in order to improve quality and effectiveness of their actions. We are also convinced that closer cooperation between civic organizations, administration and academic circles can foster better solutions for many social problems. We dream of the higher education system in Poland (especially in the area of social sciences that are particularly dear to our hearts) becoming more favourable and understanding of learning by doing and accumulating knowledge by pursuing practical endeavours.
Through some of our projects we try to show students how they can put their academic skills into practice – by inviting them to take part in our research activities and by introducing them to the possibilities of making use of their knowledge and skills in the non-governmental sector. We also try to encourage NGOs to evaluate and measure impact of their actions and pass our philosophy about making use of data and research results to our clients.
